10 words that will help you win at Scrabble

timeslikethese:

srsly:

missdreass:

1. Aa. And I don’t mean the acronym for Alcoholics Anonymous, either. Aa is “basaltic lava having a rough surface.”

2. Qat – a flowering plant native to East Africa and the Arabian peninsula.

3. Zax – a slater or slate mason, or the tool used to cut and punch nail holes in roofing slate.

4. Cwm – a valley, especially one created by glacial movement. Be warned: this one won’t get you many points, but it is good for using up pesky, low-score consonants taking up valuable space on your rack.

5. Xu – Vietnamese money

6. Qua – as or as being, or in the character of.

7. Suq – a market, or part of a market, in an Arab city.

8. Adz – an axe-like tool.

9. Jo – sweetheart or dear

10. Qadi – a judge in the Muslim community.

I got this from someones blog a few months ago, I can’t remember who, sorry, but the credit goes to you. :)

in acceptance lies peace

wise words, not my own:

Now, what did the Lord say to you this morning? Anything? Were you listening? Did you hear what He said? Did you ask Him what you want Him to tell you? What are you going to do about it? The Lord teaches me graciously and quietly and over and over again that in acceptance lies peace. So if you are a complainer, I’ve got five suggestions for you.

1) don’t allow yourself to complain about anything at all-not even the weather.

2) never let your imagination run away with useless wishing that you were where you are not.

3) make no odious comparisons.

4) never dwell on what might have been-thank God for what is.

5) remember that tomorrow doesn’t belong to you-it belongs to God.

Someone has said the heaviest part of sorrow is to look forward to it. Remember that you only have this one day. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not here. There is no point in looking forward to sorrow. The heaviest part of sorrow is to look forward to it. But the Lord will provide, and in acceptance lies peace… .

In acceptance lies peace.

May the Lord give you the grace of acceptance today.

God bless you.

“The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more but have less; we buy more but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better things.

We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in stockrooms, when technology can bring this letter to you and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or just hit delete.

Remember to spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember to say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side. Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.

Remember, to say, “I love you” to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

“This ain’t no practice life…we only get one shot”

Living With Integrity

Living with integrity means:

  • Not settling for less than what you know you deserve in your relationships.
  • Asking for what you want and need from others.
  • Speaking your truth, even though it might create conflict or tension.
  • Behaving in ways that are in harmony with your personal values.
  • Making choices based on what you believe, and not what others believe.

What A Companion Is...

“It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.

I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your hearts longing. It doesn’t interest me how old you are.

I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive. It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon.

I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals, or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own; if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, or to remember the limitations of being human. It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true, I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.

I want to know if you can be faithful and therefore trustworthy. I want to know if you can see beauty, even when it is not pretty every day, and if you can source your life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours or mine, and still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, “Yes!” It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.

I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done for the children. It doesn’t interest me who you are, or how you came to be here- I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back. It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself, and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.”

the show must go on

it is rather difficult to tell yourself that you are not interested in someone. it’s possible, i know it is. and it’s worth it. it has to be. all that falling for someone does is put you in a world of hurt. i apologize for the cynicism, but think about it. nine times out of ten your little crush is unreturned. you pine and mope and lose hours of your life because of this person who did something adorable and fucked up your brain. it’s a win-lose situation, and the percentage of win is tiny. you can’t just go tripping along after the first pretty face that smiles at you crooked. you will ruin your own life and make yourself a hell to live in. if you cannot be happy in love, then you can’t be happy in life. so if love isn’t making you happy, have the guts to let go. i am tired of the dependence on other people for happiness. and i’m upset with myself because i’m slipping. i can feel it happening. and since i already know nothing good will come of this, i am cutting it off at the pass. i am relegating myself preemptively to the friend-zone. if that makes sense. i’ve learned my lesson, and in the long run this’ll save me heartache.

don’t think i’m a terrible, cold person. i’m waiting for love, i am. above all things, i believe in love. but i don’t believe that it’s something you can look for. and i can feel myself starting to look. and you’re never going to find it if you’re looking for it.

Ten Tips for Living a Better Life, Day to Day

1. Only for today, I will seek to live the livelong day positively without wishing to solve the problems of my life all at once.

2. Only for today, I will take the greatest care of my appearance: I will dress modestly; I will not raise my voice; I will be courteous in my behavior; I will not criticize anyone; I will not claim to improve or to discipline anyone except myself.

3. Only for today, I will be happy in the certainty that I was created to be happy, not only in the other world but also in this one.

4. Only for today, I will adapt to circumstances, without requiring all circumstances to be adapted to my own wishes.

5. Only for today, I will devote 10 minutes of my time to some good reading, remembering that just as food is necessary to the life of the body, so good reading is necessary to the life of the soul.

6. Only for today, I will do one good deed and not tell anyone about it.

7. Only for today, I will do at least one thing I do not like doing; and if my feelings are hurt, I will make sure that no one notices.

8. Only for today, I will make a plan for myself: I may not follow it to the letter, but I will make it. And I will be on guard against two evils: hastiness and indecision.

9. Only for today, I will firmly believe, despite appearances, that the good Providence of God cares for me as no one else who exists in this world.

10. Only for today, I will have no fears. In particular, I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful and to believe in goodness. Indeed, for twelve hours I can certainly do what might cause me consternation were I to believe I had to do it all my life.
